Day 1 of Memories Jay

 Monday, February 16, 2026 10:55 AM

Starting today I want to enter memories of Jay. I am going to ask the Lord to bring back the good and not so good because these were his actions and memories.

Let me begin the day he was born. Jay was born on a Monday February 21, 1977 at around 4:00m PM. It all began at around 2 in the morning when Shirley notified me that it was time to go to the hospital. So, we loaded up in our Volkswagen Beetle and drove the 3 miles to the hospital. She was admitted and the long wait began.

Between 3 and 4 I went to our Associate Pastor’s home located next door to lie down and maybe take a nap. Well, shortly the called she was being taken to the delivery room. I mad a beeline to the hospital to await his arrival. Jay’s great aunt was  the nurse helping the dr. When she brought Jay out he was blue. He wasn’t getting oxygen. I noted this to his aunt but she kinda blew me off. I was an EMT at the time and knew what that looked like. She ran for the Dr. and he came to pull the mucus plug from his esophagus but the damage had been done, only we didn’t know it yet.

The rest of that day and the next couple family came by just to see the new arrival. Let me tell you his mom had a huge family that always showed up for these type of events. My mom and dad and sisters came by later in the day on the way to take the oldest sister out to eat because her birthday is the same day, the 21st. Eventually we went home to become young parents, scared to death about what to do, but we had plenty of help.
