Have you ever been attacked by a sudden onset of grief after loosing a loved one? Of course you have. It will seem to come out of nowhere. Here is an example of one of mine.(From Nov. 2025)
"This holiday season (Thanksgiving & Christmas) will mark 3 years without mom, 2 without Jay, and the first without dad. Jay’s absence hurts the most. Mom and dad lived long full lives but Jay was cut short, at least by human standards.
During the night I woke up many times thinking of standing by their beds as the last breaths were taken. It was hard but memorable. I think we will be fine this year it already seems more like it should be."
These events are normal and are called triggers. Sudden onset attacks of overwhelming grief. You are okay and will be.
